OK Savings Bank confirms personal data leak of 250 customers, including account numbers and annual income

OK Savings Bank confirmed that personal information of 250 customers was leaked following abnormal access to its website. The leaked data included names, dates of birth and mobile phone numbers, as well as financial transaction details such as account numbers, annual income and loan amounts tied to loan applications. The bank said it detected unusual access on Oct. 12, blocked suspected hacking IP addresses and access routes, and later launched an external security analysis. It began notifying affected customers on Oct. 15.

South Korean lawmakers said at a parliamentary audit that increasingly sophisticated AI-enabled hacking is hard to counter under existing personal data protection systems. They questioned whether authorities separately track AI hacking, have automated attack detection and joint drills, and reflect AI defences in public-system certification due to be phased in from July next year. Officials also faced concerns over security flaws in AI-assisted development and the use of uncertified external tools to collect sensitive data.
