Korea to merge Kobaco and KCMF after bill clears parliamentary committee

A bill to merge the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp (Kobaco) and the Korea Communications Media Foundation (KCMF) to create the Korea Broadcasting Media Communications Promotion Institute has passed the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee. The committee approved amendments including a revision to the Framework Act on Broadcasting and Communications Development. Some broadcasting, media and communications projects scattered across related agencies under the Ministry of Science and ICT would be transferred to the new body.

Cubrid ranks second in public sector DBMS market share, targets legacy system replacement demand

Cubrid said on Tuesday it ranked second in South Korea’s public sector database management system market, citing a government-wide statistics report. The company said it posted a 13.24 percent share at end-2025, overtaking Microsoft as its own share rose and Microsoft’s fell. Oracle remained No. 1 with 59.87 percent but slipped below 60 percent. Cubrid said domestic DBMS share and localisation rate also increased.

NIA carries out restructuring to support push to become top 3 AI power

South Korea\'s National Information Society Agency (NIA) said on Sept. 7 it carried out an organisational restructuring to strengthen execution of national AI policy and respond to three mega-projects. It upgraded its AI Government Infrastructure Support Unit to a headquarters unit and created an AI Government Projects Team. NIA also consolidated AX support functions and launched an Agentic AI Innovation Team. It added physical AI data functions to a data team and may expand support systems later.
