Same network, different quality: Network slicing to reshape telecoms
Network slicing is a technology that splits a single physical 5G network into multiple virtual networks and sets different bandwidth, latency, reliability and security for each service. It can keep communications for safety staff stable even when traffic surges at major events. Full implementation hinges on 5G standalone mode, which builds a 5G core network. South Korea has launched an emergency communications priority service and carriers are testing business models, while capacity, security and net neutrality issues remain.

MSIT and National Fire Agency to deploy precision location technology in Daejeon
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Fire Agency said they will apply precision location measurement technology at fire service sites in the Daejeon area to better identify the location of people needing rescue during emergencies. The technology combines multiple signals to reduce location error and provides height information inside buildings to identify floors. The agencies are working to apply it to the emergency rescue standard system and consider reflecting it in a next-generation 119 system.
