Anthropic says codebreaking AI capabilities are growing as Mythos finds weakness in HAWK PQC algorithm

Anthropic’s AI model Mythos found a fundamental weakness in HAWK, a post-quantum cryptography candidate algorithm, Ars Technica reported on July 29. After the finding was confirmed, developers voluntarily withdrew HAWK from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology standardisation process. The report said the attack does not pose an immediate threat to existing cryptosystems but highlights AI’s growing role in cryptography research.

ITCEN PNS wins KCMVP certification for PQC-based hybrid crypto module

ITCEN PNS said on Wednesday it obtained Korea Cryptographic Module Validation Program (KCMVP) certification for its EdgeCrypto v4.2 cryptographic module after applying a post-quantum cryptography (PQC)-based hybrid scheme. EdgeCrypto combines classic encryption algorithms widely used in existing systems with U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard PQC algorithms. The company plans to support customers’ gradual transition to PQC while maintaining compatibility with existing security infrastructure.

Trump signs quantum computing executive orders, urges deployment by 2028

U.S. President Donald Trump signed 2 executive orders to accelerate quantum computing development and speed the federal shift to post-quantum cryptography, reviving attention to potential risks for Bitcoin security. The post-quantum transition target was moved up to December 2031 from 2035. NIST must complete pilot conversions for federal systems by end-2027, while CISA will support critical infrastructure operators. The White House set a goal of deploying “scientifically useful” quantum computers by 2028.
