New identity verification agency designation process launched; Broadcast Media Communications Commission to start accepting applications in May
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission is starting procedures to designate new identity verification agencies. It held its fourth meeting of 2026 in writing on April 27, reported its screening plan and posted the schedule and process online. Applications will be accepted next month, with on-site inspections in June and a final decision in August. The commission also decided on administrative fines for mobile-phone retailers accused of violating a law on handset distribution.

Korea commission approves 75 operators to generate and process CI, including Naver
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communications Commission said on April 20 it approved 75 operators as suitable to generate and process Connecting Information (CI) after reviewing whether their procedures and safeguards met requirements. Approved operators include identity verification agencies such as NICE Information Service and Naver, as well as mobile electronic notification and financial MyData businesses. The review examined procedure adequacy, security plans and user rights protection. The commission said it will continue to supervise approved operators.

ICE adds $600 million investment in Polymarket to expand prediction markets
Intercontinental Exchange, the parent of the New York Stock Exchange, is making an additional $600 million investment in Polymarket as it seeks to expand prediction markets, The Block reported on March 27. ICE previously invested $1 billion in Polymarket under a $2 billion investment plan announced in October. ICE said it is also considering buying up to $40 million of Polymarket securities held by existing investors.
