A hidden mini-game using bitcoin’s past price movements has been added to the website of cryptocurrency tracking platform CoinMarketCap. Veteran trader John Bollinger (존 볼린저), creator of the Bollinger Bands technical indicator, discovered it and made it public.

On Oct. 21, blockchain outlet U.Today reported that Bollinger wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that he found a small icon at the bottom left of the CoinMarketCap site. Clicking the icon launches an arcade-style mini-game.

The game, “Bitcoin Bird,” has a structure similar to the classic mobile game Flappy Bird. Its background and obstacles are designed to match bitcoin’s price movements. Instead of passing through narrow gaps, users must move the bird along a corridor between the upper and lower Bollinger Bands formed over bitcoin’s historical price charts. The game ends if the player fails to stay between the two boundaries.

The key is that bitcoin’s volatility itself has been turned into the obstacle layout. As the game progresses, users move along bitcoin’s price movements across different periods. The Bollinger Bands feature, in which band width changes as price volatility rises, is reflected as-is, linking the indicator’s movement to game difficulty.

Bollinger also found the setup interesting. He was reported as saying the game is a unique blend of cryptocurrency history and technical analysis and that he found it especially fun. He added that it reminded him of the mood of the early days of cryptocurrency.

The game serves as an homage to Bollinger Bands, one of the best-known technical indicators. Bollinger Bands are an indicator Bollinger developed in the early 1980s. They are used to measure market volatility and, by comparing it with the recent trading range, to judge whether a price level is high or low. Against this backdrop, CoinMarketCap has effectively combined bitcoin price history with a technical indicator, turning a chart analysis tool into participatory content for users.

The case is seen as an attempt by a cryptocurrency information platform to expand beyond price quotes into experiential content. A key feature is that it implements bitcoin’s past price movements and Bollinger Bands as a simple game to encourage user participation.

Just saw this @CoinMarketCap has a tiny bird floating in the bottom left corner of their site: https://t.co/xXLTLz8idX Clicking it takes you to a nice little game that lets you fly the bird though the history of bitcoin:native , but you have to stay inside the Bollinger Bands. Sort of feels like the good vibes of the early days. Enjoy!
