NEC halts quantum computer hardware development as commercialisation remains distant
NEC has stopped development of a working quantum computer, Japanese media reported, citing a decision to halt hardware work at the end of March. The company was said to have concluded that commercialisation remains too far off and that continuing hardware development would not be cost-effective given unresolved technical challenges and the lack of a settled approach. NEC is expected to focus on quantum computing technology development and related services rather than competing in hardware.

NEC has unveiled the 999-gram LAVIE BM94C ultralight business laptop, featuring a 99.9Wh battery that supports up to 30.5 hours of video playback. TechRadar reported the model is a flagship in NEC’s new LAVIE business lineup and will launch first in Japan, with a starting price of 584,100 yen. NEC says the design balances sub-1 kg weight, durability and expanded connectivity, with AI-based power management.

Nvidia joins Japan\'s FRONTIA national physical AI project
Japan\'s government is working with Nvidia to build national artificial intelligence infrastructure aimed at strengthening competitiveness in physical AI used in robotics and industrial automation. Up to 1 trillion yen is expected to be invested over the next five years. The economy ministry will support cooperation between consortium NOESTRA and Nvidia on the FRONTIA project, which runs until 2030 and will use Nvidia\'s Vera Rubin platform infrastructure.
