NEC halts quantum computer hardware development as commercialisation remains distant

NEC has stopped development of a working quantum computer, Japanese media reported, citing a decision to halt hardware work at the end of March. The company was said to have concluded that commercialisation remains too far off and that continuing hardware development would not be cost-effective given unresolved technical challenges and the lack of a settled approach.
