Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission to scrutinise carrier incentives to curb steering to high-priced plans
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission will strengthen its response to unfair sales practices after the abolition of the Mobile Device Distribution Act. From next month, it will monitor how the three mobile carriers pay incentives to agencies and retailers, and will focus inspections on practices that force or induce customers to sign up for high-priced plans or add-on services. It will also strengthen plan-change alerts, improve comparisons of extra subsidies and expand user reporting mechanisms.

Korea commission steps up response to false manipulated information, boosts platform accountability
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission plans to upgrade its response system to false and manipulated information under a revised information network law. It will push to strengthen accountability for large platforms and seek to set up a transparency centre to support fact-checking. The commission also plans to introduce labelling for online AI-generated content and raise transparency around recommendation algorithms. It is reviewing measures to regulate youth SNS use and preparing pay-TV regulatory changes and other media policy steps.

Korea communications commission launches AI short-form \'Telecom Tips\' series
South Korea\'s Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission is launching a video series to provide telecommunications information needed in daily life. The commission said it is working with SK Telecom, KT, LG Uplus and the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association to deliver the information through AI-generated short-form videos under the title \'Telecom Tips for the Public\'. The campaign aims to convey verified information in an easy and engaging way as fake news grows.
