K-AI chips put to the test as global AI startups step up push into South Korea

Upstage unveils \'Solar Open 2\' touting agent performance

Upstage unveiled its open-weight large language model \'Solar Open 2\' optimised for agent task execution and released the model weights on Hugging Face. Developed through a government sovereign AI foundation model project, it uses a mixture-of-experts design with 250 billion parameters and activates 15 billion in use. Upstage said it outperformed rival models on multiple benchmarks and plans broader deployments and AX services across industries.

Samsung Electronics considers hundreds of millions of euros investment in France\'s Mistral AI

Samsung Electronics is discussing a plan to invest hundreds of millions of euros in French AI startup Mistral AI, the Financial Times reported on July 22, citing sources. The report said the investment would be part of a new funding round in which Mistral is seeking a valuation of about 20 billion euros. The FT said Samsung could invest about 1 billion euros. Sweden-based investor EQT\'s Scaleup Europe Fund is also discussing participation.
