Context before models as agentic OS race intensifies
Competition is intensifying over platforms that optimise multiple AI models with internal corporate data so AI can better understand organisations and execute tasks. Enterprise software companies are treating such platforms, which help AI grasp corporate context and play an operating system role, as strategically important. Microsoft, Snowflake, Adobe and SAP have highlighted products and strategies focused on context layers, governance and services for AI agents, while interest also rises in PCs and chips running AI locally.

Microsoft Fabric aims to be data platform for AI agents, targeting Snowflake and Databricks
Microsoft unveiled three new products at its Build 2026 conference to strengthen data infrastructure for AI agents. Fabric CTO Amir Netz said enterprise AI needs a “context layer” to operate reliably. Microsoft introduced Azure HorizonDB, a fully managed PostgreSQL-compatible database in public preview. It will add Nvidia GPU acceleration support to Fabric Data Warehouse in an early access preview in July 2026. Microsoft also launched Fabric IQ to define business concepts and boundaries for AI agents.

Microsoft unveils latest global AI cases from railways to security firms
Microsoft has released recent global corporate innovation cases that redesign work and business operations and accelerate growth through its “Frontier Transformation” strategy based on intelligence and trust. It highlighted examples across aviation, rail, finance and security, including Air India, Hong Kong’s MTR, Tru Cooperative Bank and security firm ContraForce. It also introduced organisations adopting Copilot as a companywide standard, including PepsiCo, Mercedes-Benz and Broward County Public Schools, as well as Cemex, KPMG and Tata Realty.
