KAIST president Lee Kwang-hyung steps down; expands research, education and global cooperation

KAIST said it will hold a farewell ceremony on July 2 at its Daejeon campus for its 17th president, Lee Kwang-hyung (이광형). During his term, KAIST set up a failure research institute, expanded discussion-based classes, and promoted startups under a “one lab, one startup” vision. From 2021 to December 2025, it produced 568 startups, including 24 listed firms, with cumulative enterprise value topping 22 trillion won.
