KAIST president Lee Kwang-hyung steps down; expands research, education and global cooperation
KAIST said it will hold a farewell ceremony on July 2 at its Daejeon campus for its 17th president, Lee Kwang-hyung (이광형). During his term, KAIST set up a failure research institute, expanded discussion-based classes, and promoted startups under a “one lab, one startup” vision. From 2021 to December 2025, it produced 568 startups, including 24 listed firms, with cumulative enterprise value topping 22 trillion won.

Medical, bio AI models prove global competitiveness, move to phase two development
Two AI-focused foundation models being developed in South Korea for medical and bio applications will move into phase two after an interim performance review, the Ministry of Science and ICT said on Monday. A Lunit consortium and a KAIST consortium each scored above 80 points, meeting the 70-point threshold for further support. The ministry plans to keep providing each consortium with 256 Nvidia B200 GPUs through early September. The models are set to be released as open source in early April.

Messe Muenchen to hold world\'s largest lab equipment exhibition in Hanoi
Messe Muenchen said on March 3 that analytica Hanoi 2026, described as the world’s largest exhibition for laboratory and analytical equipment, will be held in Hanoi on April 22-24. More than 150 global companies and brands are set to take part, with CHC Lab and Daehan Scientific participating from South Korea. The company said research infrastructure investment is concentrating in northern Vietnam and projected growth in Vietnam’s life sciences and analytical instruments market.
