Meta to begin mass production of latest MTIA AI chip in September

Meta plans to start mass production of the latest version of its in-house AI chip from September as it seeks to lower GPU costs amid an unprecedented parts shortage. The company is designing the chip with Broadcom and will have it made by TSMC, while sourcing memory from Samsung Electronics, storage from SanDisk and fibre-optic equipment from Sumitomo Electric. Meta expects 2026 capital spending of $125 billion to $145 billion, with much allocated to AI.
