[DigitalToday reporter Hyunwoo Choo (추현우)] Arm unveiled its in-house AI chip, the AGI CPU, targeting AI data centres and touting performance optimised for agentic AI workloads.

The AGI CPU carries 136 Neoverse V3 cores, offering strong computing performance and efficiency. It is designed to scale to 8,160 cores in an air-cooled 1U server and 45,000 cores in liquid-cooled systems.

On March 27, the IT outlet TechRadar reported that the AGI CPU delivers more than twice the performance of existing x86 CPUs while maintaining energy efficiency. It said this can maximise computing density, accelerator utilisation and infrastructure efficiency.

Meta led development of the AGI CPU, with major companies including OpenAI, SK Telecom and SAP joining as early commercial customers. Meta plans to integrate its MTIA, optimised for its AI data centres, with the AGI CPU to maximise performance. Arm is working with OEMs and ODMs including Lenovo, Supermicro and Quanta Computer, aiming for commercialisation in the second half of 2026.

Industry reaction has also been positive. Amazon senior vice president James Hamilton said, "Collaboration with Arm made AWS Graviton a success, and the AGI CPU will also deliver innovative performance." Broadcom said, "Arm's AGI CPU will open up a new AI ecosystem," expressing its expectations.
