LG AI Research says it will bet on expert AI to solve industry problems

LG AI Research set out an AGI strategy it said differs from global big tech, aiming to keep improving general models while building expert AI that can solve difficult problems in manufacturing, science and finance. It unveiled sector applications and development plans at an event in Seoul. The group is developing EXAONE model series, domain-specific models and K-EXAONE. It also said AI development should continue, while releases and deployment require greater caution.

LG Chem targets China market with semiconductor cleaning materials

LG Chem will enter China’s semiconductor cleaning materials market, it said on Sept. 14. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese fine chemical materials company Zhanghuawei to cooperate on an ultra-high-purity IPA business for semiconductors. LG Chem will supply high-purity C3-IPA, which Zhanghuawei will refine into ultra-high-purity IPA for cleaning. The partners aim to build a local supply system and expand cooperation.

AA says South Korea among world\'s top three in AI, needs AGI race to catch U.S., China

A global AI assessment body said South Korea has quickly risen to become one of the world’s top three AI countries on the back of its sovereign foundation model project. Artificial Analysis said South Korean models still lag top U.S. and Chinese models on intelligence, but competitiveness should not be judged by scores alone given large cost gaps and the flexibility of open-weight models. It said South Korea should focus on strengths such as advanced manufacturing while continuing to develop general-purpose capabilities, including AI for science, agents and coding.
