LG Energy Solution is entering large-scale projects in the European ESS market. LG Energy Solution said on the 27th that it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with Israel-based renewable energy company Energix at its headquarters in Parc1 in Yeouido, Seoul, to cooperate on ESS projects in Europe and North America.

The two companies agreed to work together with a goal of supplying a total of 2 GWh within 24 months, including about 1.5 GWh in Europe and about 0.5 GWh in North America. The company said it is also considering ways to increase overall supply to around 4.5 GWh through their European and U.S. subsidiaries. The cooperation will begin with the Jonava project that Energix is pursuing in Lithuania.

The Jonava project is a hybrid renewable energy business to build an ESS of about 320 MWh. Development is currently under way, with commercial operation targeted for 2027. The two companies also formed a cooperative relationship in 2024 by supplying products to Energix's Nowe Czarnowo ESS project in Poland.

Energix is an independent power producer with its headquarters in Israel. An independent power producer refers to a private power generation business operator that develops and operates power plants directly to sell electricity. It oversees solar, wind and ESS projects from development through operation in Europe, North America and Israel, and aims to build a global portfolio of more than 8 GW.

LG Energy Solution is delivering results in North America, focusing on ESS businesses linked to AI data centres, power grids and renewable energy. The company said it plans to strengthen the foundation of its global ESS business by expanding its business scope to Europe through this agreement.

Kang Chang-beom (강창범), head of LG Energy Solution's ESS battery division, said, "Through cooperation with Energix, we have been able to expand ESS business opportunities in Europe and North America and further strengthen our global customer base." He added, "Based on differentiated technological capabilities and local production capacity, we will accelerate the growth of our global ESS business."
