Cumulative sales of LG Display’s large OLED panels have surpassed 50 million units. LG Display said on Oct. 28 it set the record by expanding its market from TVs to monitors after becoming the first in the world to begin selling large OLED TV panels in 2013.

The tally covers WOLED panels, an organic light-emitting diode that emits white light. Cumulative sales first topped 10 million units in 2020. They then exceeded 20 million in 2021, 30 million in 2023 and 40 million in 2025, reaching 50 million this time. It took 6 years to rise from 10 million to 50 million units.

LG Display began mass production of 55-inch OLED TV panels in 2013. In 2018, it became the first in the world to mass-produce an 88-inch panel with 8K resolution that has 16 times as many pixels as full HD. In 2022, a 97-inch panel, the world’s largest, followed. The company said it has also built a full-size TV lineup from the 40-inch range to the 90-inch range.

After commercialising WOLED for TVs, it expanded applications to monitors. Using WOLED’s fast response time, it applied to gaming monitors both products with higher refresh rates, the number of times a screen changes per second, and DFR, a technology that changes resolution and refresh rate depending on the situation. It also diversified sizes from 45-inch 21:9 monitors to 24.5-inch monitors for esports. It is also pushing to expand into office and professional uses.

LG Display CEO Cheol-dong Jeong (정철동) said, "Surpassing 50 million WOLED units is the result of the efforts of our employees who have worked through a tough business environment and multiple difficult tasks." He said the company will use its WOLED technology, accumulated over 13 years and leading the industry, to quickly secure differentiated next-generation display technology for the future that goes beyond the present and become a "technology-driven company" by building a moat of technological and business competitiveness that rivals cannot easily challenge.
