Global security firms step up Korea push, expand infrastructure amid AI hacking

Global security companies are speeding up efforts to target South Korean firms seeking to address new threats linked to the spread of AI, including moves to build service infrastructure in Korea. Cisco is operating a Secure Access Korea point of presence, while Palo Alto Networks Korea is expanding cooperation with local firms, running training programmes and teaming up on frontier-AI threats. Hong Beom-sik of LG Uplus added as witness for parliament audit; Google, X and Meta Korea executives also

Hong Beom-sik (홍범식), chief executive of LG Uplus, has been additionally selected as a witness for a parliamentary audit by the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee. The committee approved requests to summon five witnesses and three reference witnesses at a plenary meeting on Oct. 15. Executives from Google Korea, X Korea and Meta Korea are set to attend on Oct. 22, with an LG Uplus security officer to appear on Oct. 23.

Makinarocks installs AI equipment operations staff on Navy Pohang ship, begins trials

Makinarocks has installed an AI-based “equipment operations AI staff” on the Navy’s Pohang ship under the First Fleet Command and has begun trial operations, it said on Monday. The project is part of a defence technology programme led by the Korea Research Institute for Defense Technology Planning and Advancement. The system uses Makinarocks’ AI operating system Runway and an on-device setup designed for ships with restricted external connectivity.
