The Korea Association for ICT Promotion (KAIT) is revamping subjects for the Digital Information Application Technology (DIAT), a nationally recognised private qualification.

KAIT said on Tuesday it will rename DIAT's Information and Communications General Knowledge subject as 'Information and Communications AI Literacy' and apply it from the regular test in January 2027, after reviews by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training in July.

The revamp was 추진됐다 to broaden the scope beyond basic information and communications knowledge focused on existing PC and communications environments. It aims to comprehensively assess foundational literacy needed in the AI era, including AI concepts and operating principles, use of generative AI, analysis and verification of generated results, and AI ethics and digital literacy.

The Information and Communications AI Literacy test consists of three areas: understanding information and communications, understanding AI, and understanding digital society. The understanding information and communications area evaluates knowledge of basic principles and how digital technologies work, including computers and data, programs and networks.

The newly created understanding AI area covers basic AI principles, generative AI and examples of everyday use. It also evaluates capabilities needed to use AI appropriately, such as asking effective questions and verifying generated results.

The understanding digital society area covers major issues in the digital environment, including personal data protection and information security, AI ethics, deepfakes and false information. It also evaluates whether test-takers can judge the truth, reliability and bias of AI-generated information and use AI safely and responsibly.

Information and Communications AI Literacy is a DIAT subject, which is a nationally recognised private qualification. Those who obtain the qualification can receive benefits such as having it recorded in high school student records, earning academic credits and receiving hiring preferences at some institutions.

The first regular test will be held on Jan. 23, 2027. Further details are available on KAIT's qualification testing website.
