Optimal plan notification countdown stirs telecom industry

From next month, mobile carriers in South Korea will analyse subscribers’ usage and proactively notify them of more suitable rate plans under the optimal plan notification system. Users are expected to benefit by reducing cases of keeping plans that are more expensive than their actual usage. The telecom industry, however, expects pressure from potential declines in average revenue per user and costs to build related systems. The system will first apply to SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus.

Galaxy Z boost stirs number porting as LG Uplus adds 10,101 users

South Korea\'s mobile number porting market picked up again in August, with total switchers rising 7.1 percent from the previous month to 680,346, data showed. LG Uplus led net gains among the three carriers with 10,101 users added, while SK Telecom posted a small increase. KT lost 12,867 users, more than triple its July net loss, as the launch of Samsung Electronics\' new Galaxy Z models boosted handset replacement demand.
