Financial regulators to pursue derivatives diversification, review digital asset framework
South Korea\'s financial authorities and the Korea Exchange said they will strengthen investor protection while seeking to diversify derivatives products and improve trading conditions to revitalise the market, marking the derivatives market\'s 30th anniversary. A Financial Services Commission official said balance is needed as tighter protection has reduced excessive speculation but may have hurt market vitality. The Korea Exchange outlined plans for weekly and zero-day options, new futures listings and steps toward a 24-hour trading system.

KOSPI sidecar triggered 10 times this year, most since global financial crisis
The KOSPI sidecar mechanism has been triggered 10 times in less than two months since last month, the Korea Exchange said. There were four buy-side and six sell-side activations between Feb. 2 and March 23. The KOSDAQ market saw six triggers this year. The exchange said the highest annual total since 2002 was 26 in 2008, with this year the next highest so far.

KOSPI, Kosdaq surge triggers buy-side sidecar in both markets
South Korea’s stock markets surged on March 5, triggering buy-side sidecar curbs in both the KOSPI and Kosdaq markets. The Korea Exchange temporarily halted the effectiveness of program buy orders for 5 minutes from 9:06:02 a.m. as the KOSPI200 futures index jumped 10.84 percent. At the same time, Kosdaq150 futures and the Kosdaq150 index rose more than 10 percent. A day earlier, sell-side sidecars were triggered in both markets after sharp falls.
