The Kosdaq index slid nearly 5 percent in intraday trading, triggering a sell-sidecar that temporarily halted the effectiveness of program sell orders.
The Korea Exchange said program sell orders in the Kosdaq market were suspended for 5 minutes from 10:05 a.m. on Aug. 21.
At the time of activation, Kosdaq150 futures fell 6.06 percent from the previous session's close to 1,387.40, while the Kosdaq150 spot index dropped 5.48 percent to 1,391.11.
As of 10:10 a.m., the Kosdaq index was down 4.82 percent from the previous session at 800.37. The decline briefly widened to the 5 percent range during the session. The KOSPI fell 0.76 percent to 6,800.76.
