\"AI builds AI\" - U.S.-China self-improvement race reignites \"AI extinction\" theory

OpenAI Astra performs better but is harder to monitor

OpenAI’s new AI model Astra has improved performance but has become harder to monitor, an assessment said. Axios reported OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on Sept. 3. Greg Brockman called it a starting point for AGI, and Sam Altman said some capabilities were at a “superhuman” level. Researchers warned that as models advance, it will become harder to track their reasoning. OpenAI denied a report about new methods reducing transparency.

OpenAI next-generation model \'Astra\' details emerge

Tech journalist Alex Heath shared findings from reporting on OpenAI in his newsletter after spending two weeks at the company’s San Francisco headquarters with TIME. He wrote a cover story, \"Inside OpenAI\'s Reboot,\" based on interviews with more than 20 executives, investors, customers and rivals. Heath said OpenAI privately demonstrated a next-generation model called Astra to VIP customers in early August, and described comments on AGI, research automation, reorganisation, hardware and computing sales.
