OpenAI is set to release a new AI model in June that will outperform its current flagship model GPT-5.5, a report said.

The Information reported this on June 10, citing a person familiar with the launch timeline.

According to the report, OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki (야쿠프 파호츠키) said in a message to staff that the new model, codenamed "5.6", delivered "meaningful improvements" over GPT-5.5.

This is expected to intensify competition between OpenAI, which is pursuing a stock market listing, and Anthropic over cutting-edge AI models.

Anthropic also officially launched a public version called "Claude Fable 5" on June 9, based on its Mythos model.

Fable 5 shows strong performance in software engineering, knowledge work and vision, but blocks responses in high-risk areas including cybersecurity, biology, chemistry and distillation, and switches to Claude Opus 4.8. Mythos, released as a preview in April, was initially limited to a small number of partners over concerns about its impact on cybersecurity, before being expanded last week to 150 organisations in 15 countries.
