South Korea science ministry fast-tracks four ICT regulatory sandbox pilots
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT fast-tracked four cases under its ICT regulatory sandbox pilot exemption scheme, including a voiceprint-based mobile voice phishing detection service and projects to use vacant rural homes for shared lodging. It also approved a mobile electronic notification service for financial guidance leaflets previously sent by mail. The ministry said it held a written review meeting from July 22 to 29 to designate the cases.

South Korea speeds up agentic AI ecosystem drive to open one-agent-per-person era
South Korea will speed up efforts to build an agentic AI ecosystem in which AI can plan autonomously and carry out tasks using external systems and tools. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced a joint interagency initiative focused on safety and trust, an open execution base and demand-led adoption. Plans include safety guidelines, evaluation tools, a private marketplace for verified agents, core AI operating system technology and industry consortium pilots.

KT to link local phone service via LTE, steps up push to close connectivity gaps
KT will build a wireless network-based local telephone service, the first among South Korean telecom operators. The Ministry of Science and ICT on May 6 newly designated four regulatory exemptions, including an LTE-based local phone service and an AI-based severe trauma patient care system. The latest designations bring cumulative approvals under the ICT regulatory sandbox introduced in 2019 to 300 cases.
