Semiconductors, defense, shipbuilding and power equipment to drive South Korean exports in second half
Semiconductors, defense, shipbuilding and power equipment are expected to lead South Korea\'s exports in the second half, with simultaneous strength across the four sectors seen absorbing external shocks despite prolonged Middle East tensions and a surge in Strait of Hormuz shipping rates. The Bank of Korea raised its growth outlook and lifted its inflation forecast, citing strong first-quarter growth and an extended semiconductor cycle. Officials also pointed to broader export gains across industries.

Transformer and cable makers eye spillover as Nvidia \'Rubin\' shipments near
Expectations are spreading across the power equipment value chain ahead of Nvidia’s next-generation AI accelerator Rubin shipping in July. Racks built with Rubin require about 1.5 times more power than Blackwell racks and about five times more than Hopper racks, raising forecasts for demand for key grid components such as transformers and cables. Supply constraints have lengthened ultra-high-voltage transformer lead times to about four years. Analysts cite strong hyperscaler capex and rising data-centre electricity use, while noting speculation of delays.
