Samsung, LG compete on heat pumps at climate industry expo as heating electrification speeds up

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are showcasing heat pump-based boilers at the 2026 Climate Industry International Expo in Busan, stepping up competition in energy-saving technologies as heating electrification accelerates. Samsung is highlighting its EHS All-in-One and HVAC lineup tied to FlaktGroup, along with SmartThings-based energy features and remote diagnostics. LG is promoting its Therma V heat pump boiler, energy-efficient air conditioners, appliances and displays, and presenting recycling and low-carbon product initiatives.

Samsung to build 240 billion won HVAC production line in Gwangju, to start operations in early 2028

Samsung Electronics will build an HVAC production line for AI data centre air-conditioning equipment at its Gwangju complex. Samsung Electronics, FlaktGroup Korea and the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special Zone signed an investment agreement on Aug. 19. Samsung plans to invest about 240 billion won to construct a 21,800 square metre production line at its third campus in Buk-gu, Gwangju, with operations set to begin in early 2028.

AI factory build in Korea leaves server, cooling supply chain tied to Taiwan

Construction of gigawatt-scale AI factories in South Korea is getting under way, but server assembly and liquid-cooling component supply chains are controlled by Taiwanese companies, raising concerns that Korean materials and parts suppliers are being sidelined. Nvidia plans to ship fully assembled compute trays from its next-generation Vera Rubin platform, narrowing assembly partners to Foxconn, Quanta and Wistron. Cooling component suppliers Auras and AVC have also taken an early lead.
