Google works with FBI to disrupt \'NetNut\' malicious proxy network
Google Threat Intelligence Group said on July 6 it worked with the FBI and industry partners to disrupt NetNut, one of the world’s largest malicious residential proxy networks. It said the proxy network industry is closely interconnected through operators trading botnet resources. Google estimated NetNut infected and controlled at least 2 million devices via the BadBox 2.0 botnet and trojan apps, including many smart TVs and set-top boxes.

FBI unveils simulation city to train for cyber attacks and investigations
The FBI has built a 22,000-square-foot mock city at its Huntsville, Alabama campus to simulate cyber attacks and train investigators, TechCrunch reported. Opened in February 2025, the Kinetic Cyber Range includes homes, a hotel, gas station, grocery store, courthouse, hospital and a power company, along with roads and traffic lights. More than 1,400 people have trained there. It also offers digital forensics training that TechCrunch said is controversial.

Google files first lawsuit against Chinese hacking group over AI scams, coordinating with FBI and carriers
Google has filed a lawsuit against a Chinese cybercrime group accused of using its Gemini AI model to conduct online financial fraud targeting hundreds of thousands of Americans, the New York Times reported. The company submitted a complaint in federal court in Manhattan and sought a restraining order against the group known as Outsider Enterprise. Google is coordinating with the FBI, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.
