Mentat raises 1.1 billion won seed funding for lawyer AI legal drafting tool

Legal tech startup Mentat said on Monday it raised 1.1 billion won in seed funding. Collaborative Fund Asia led the round, with venture accelerator Crypton and financial technology firm HonestAI participating. Mentat offers an AI service that helps lawyers draft legal documents and plans an official launch as early as late May. It will provide an autonomous draft-writing mode and a co-pilot mode, and will first roll out usage-based subscriptions and enterprise plans.

AI token consumption surge may be inflated

AI token consumption, a key indicator of demand, may be significantly inflated, CNBC reported. As companies increasingly measure AI adoption by token usage, employees may focus on boosting the metric rather than outcomes. Meta and Shopify have built internal leaderboards to track token use. Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi warned spending can rise without producing results. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei described planning risks and Anthropic shifted to usage-based pricing.

ChatGPT adds HWP support, targets finance and public sector

OpenAI said on April 17 that ChatGPT will support HWP and HWPX, the document formats used by Hancom Office\'s Hangul. South Korean users can upload Hangul documents directly without converting files, then review, analyse, extract information and summarise content through natural-language queries. HWP and HWPX are widely used across public bodies, schools and major companies and account for more than 91 percent of domestic public documents.
