Anthropic has shifted its enterprise Claude Enterprise plan to a usage-based model, The Information reported on April 14 local time.

The change is expected to sharply raise costs for corporate customers that use a large amount of AI.

Claude Enterprise customers pay a base fee of $20 per user per month, plus additional charges based on actual computing use. Under the previous model, they paid up to $200 per user per month and received a set amount of token usage.

Frederik Filipsson (프레드릭 필립손), co-founder of software licence negotiation firm Redress Compliance, estimated that costs for heavy users could rise by 2 to 3 times.

The Team plan, aimed at companies with fewer than 150 users, is excluded from the pricing change.

An Anthropic spokesperson said some customers previously hit usage limits and had their work interrupted, while others were unable to use all the capacity they bought. The spokesperson said the change better reflects workloads shifting from human use to agent use.

According to The Information, the annualised revenue of Claude Code, an AI coding tool offered by Anthropic, surged to $2.5 billion in February from $1 billion in December last year. Weekly active users also doubled between January and February.
