IMF says El Salvador bitcoin increase came from private donations, not government funds
El Salvador’s increased bitcoin holdings after entering an International Monetary Fund financial support programme were obtained through private donations rather than government funds, the IMF said. It said verification of data submitted by Salvadoran authorities showed no additional purchases using public resources after the first review. The IMF also said control of the Chivo e-wallet was transferred to a private operator, and it expected no further bitcoin accumulation beyond confirmed donations.

Countries with high Bitcoin holdings share weak banking systems
El Salvador, Venezuela and Nigeria rank among countries where a high share of people have held Bitcoin, a survey-based Cornell University index found. The report said Bitcoin is used not just as a speculative asset but as a practical workaround for unstable currencies and limited access to banking and dollars. The study also found many respondents struggled to explain Bitcoin’s protocol, and 58 percent did not know its supply is capped at 21 million.

El Salvador\'s \'Bitcoin Beach\' sees just one BTC payment in a month, witness says

Bitcoin Core contributor John Attak said a restaurant employee told him his lunch payment was the first bitcoin transaction there in a month. Some travellers reported paying with bitcoin without problems, but a gap between symbolism and actual usage appears to have widened.
