Gaming-focused blockchain Ronin will switch from an independent sidechain to an Ethereum layer 2 after a hard fork. The shift is aimed at improving security, following a $625 million DeFi bridge hack in May 2022 when it operated as an independent sidechain. Ronin will also change its token economy, adopting a “proof-of-distribution” model to reward builders based on network contributions and reduce token inflation.

Developers in the Tezos ecosystem have released a private blockchain payment prototype, TzEL, on a testnet to prepare for attacks using quantum computers. The system is designed to protect encrypted transaction data and payment metadata by applying post-quantum cryptography and zk-STARK proofs. TzEL focuses on countering “collect now, decrypt later” attacks. It uses Tezos’ data availability layer to handle large proof sizes.
