Brokerages cut domestic branches and step up global push
South Korean brokerages are accelerating overseas expansion as mobile trading prompts further streamlining of domestic branches. As of end-2025, 16 firms operated 93 overseas outlets, up by 13 from a year earlier, while overseas subsidiaries’ net profit rose 67.8 percent. Domestic branches at the top 10 brokerages slipped to 438 as of March 31. Firms are widening foreign omnibus account services and building networks across the United States, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and India.

Singapore\'s DBS to launch tokenised gold trading service for retail customers in second half 2026
Singapore\'s DBS Bank will launch a tokenised gold trading service for retail customers in the second half of 2026. It plans to introduce the DBS Physical Gold Token on its digibank platform and is considering listing it on the DBS Digital Exchange, a platform for accredited and institutional investors. DBS will handle issuance, distribution and management using its own infrastructure. Each token will be linked to 1 gram of physical gold stored in a Singapore-only vault.

Overseas investment banks raise South Korea growth forecasts after surprise Q1 GDP rebound
Global investment banks have been raising their forecasts for South Korea\'s economic growth this year, driven mainly by a surprise rebound in first-quarter GDP. Bloomberg data show the average 2026 growth forecast from 42 institutions rose to 2.1% at end-April from 2.0% a month earlier. Individual institutions raised projections more sharply. Inflation forecasts also moved higher, with the average 2026 consumer inflation forecast from 38 institutions rising to 2.5%.
