Elon Musk to invest $1 billion in Skydance as funding draws attention

Elon Musk is reported to have invested about $1 billion in newly created media company Skydance. The investment was reported days after Paramount acquired Warner Bros. Discovery for $110 billion and launched an integrated company. The new entity is combining platforms and networks including Paramount+, HBO Max, CBS and CNN. Musk’s funds were reported to coincide with additional contributions from existing investors, with Laurene Powell Jobs also involved.

Silicon Valley AI researchers take up smoking to show faith AI will cure cancer, Palantir CTO says

Smoking is emerging as a new form of showing off among some AI researchers, based on claims that it signals belief AI will eventually cure cancer. Palantir Chief Technology Officer Shyam Sankar said some researchers started smoking to demonstrate strong faith in AI. He provided no names or evidence. Sankar also criticised Silicon Valley’s AI boom as mass mental illness and social delusion.

Paramount+ and HBO Max complete 147.4 trillion won mega-merger, Skydance launches

Skydance plans to combine HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ into a single streaming service after completing its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery. The newly launched company is named Skydance and said it will merge the services over time, without disclosing a schedule, name or pricing. CEO David Ellison has pushed the idea and stressed HBO will operate independently. The deal brings major studios, networks and key intellectual property under one company.
