Korean game makers seek breakthrough on consoles as mobile growth slows
South Korean game companies are increasingly turning to consoles as growth in mobile games slows. A Korea Creative Content Agency report showed console game exports rose 15.1 percent in 2024 to $213.76 million, the fastest growth among platforms, while PC game exports fell. Recent sales successes, including Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert, have reinforced the shift. Companies are expanding multi-platform lineups, though revenue structures and long development cycles pose challenges.

KakaoGames to begin \'God Save Birmingham\' alpha test on Feb. 20, release new video
KakaoGames is stepping up preparations for the launch of \'God Save Birmingham\', a medieval-themed zombie survival game, by unveiling its test schedule. On Feb. 13, it released new gameplay video for the PC online title being developed by its subsidiary Ocean Drive Studio and announced a closed global alpha test. The first test runs Feb. 20-24 for pre-alpha participants, followed by a second test Feb. 27 to March 3 for new players recruited via Steam.

KakaoGames posts 39.6 billion won operating loss in 2025, swings to deficit
KakaoGames said it posted a 39.6 billion won operating loss last year on a consolidated basis, swinging to a deficit from a year earlier. Revenue fell 25.9 percent to 465.0 billion won, and net loss totalled 143.0 billion won. Fourth-quarter revenue slipped 25.8 percent to 98.9 billion won and operating loss was 13.1 billion won. The company plans to focus on games and expand platforms.
