OpenAI prepares inference residency in South Korea, in talks with local partners to secure GPUs

OpenAI is preparing to introduce “inference residency” in South Korea so Korean users’ AI inference computing is handled at domestic data centres. OpenAI Korea chief Kim Kyung-hoon said the company is discussing securing GPUs and cloud infrastructure with several local partners and expects to offer the service in the near term. OpenAI already supports data residency in Korea, but some data can move overseas during inference.

OpenAI\'s GPT-6 Astra excels in 3D and gaming but falters in writing

OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on Sept. 3. Early users reported strong performance in 3D space reconstruction, game creation and desktop task automation, while giving lower marks for writing than the prior GPT-5.6 Sol model. Astra costs $10 per 1 million input tokens and $50 per 1 million output tokens, 2.5 times GPT-5.6 Sol. OpenAI said Astra improved desktop-task results and security capability, and is rolling it out via ChatGPT tiers, APIs and cloud platforms.

Anthropic expands Claude-based agentic commerce to target consumers and operators

Anthropic unveiled a blueprint to support building commerce agents based on Claude. It said retailers, marketplaces, e-commerce platforms and travel companies worldwide are creating shopping agents with Claude, and customers such as Shopify and Priceline have already launched agents for natural-language search, comparison and purchasing. The blueprint includes harnesses, patterns and guardrails, reference implementations, and a Claude Code plugin. It works across Claude API and major cloud environments, and includes shopping and merchant agents.
