Lam Research Korea launches robotics challenge for high school students
Lam Research Korea has begun nationwide qualifying rounds for its Lam Research Robo Challenge, a robotics competition program for high school students, it said on May 20. The programme is hosted by Lam Research Korea and SeedCoop, with support from the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. Qualifiers will be held in five regions, with the next round on May 23 in Ansan and the final on Aug. 13 in Seoul.

South Korea to overhaul materials R&D with AI-based research innovation
South Korea will overhaul its materials research and development system by using artificial intelligence, shifting from long-term, high-cost development to AI models, robotic experimentation and data platforms. The Ministry of Science and ICT approved a 2026-2030 strategy to build an AI materials R&D platform. Plans include developing proprietary materials AI models, setting up autonomous experimentation centres and building an integrated national materials research data platform.

National science advisory council approves basic plan for national heritage preservation and management
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Wednesday the 82nd steering committee meeting of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council reviewed and approved a draft second basic plan and 2026 action plan for R&D on national heritage preservation, management and use. The National Heritage Administration drew up the five-year plan to advance systems using advanced science and technology. The 2026 plan includes 14 billion won in R&D investment across multiple projects.
