South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said First Vice Minister Koo Hyuk-chae (구혁채) met Australian Ambassador to South Korea Jeff Robinson (제프 로빈슨) on Thursday at the Australian Embassy in Seoul and discussed multilateral research cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and ways to deepen bilateral science, technology and digital cooperation.
The two sides reviewed the possibility of building a multilateral research cooperation platform to turn the region's research capacity and cooperation potential into reality and attract global talent to the region.
They also reviewed progress on cooperation tasks agreed at the Korea-Australia Joint Committee on Science and Technology in December last year and agreed to explore ways to deepen cooperation in advanced science and technology fields including AI and quantum technology.
Koo said Australia is a world-leading power in fundamental and core science and technology and a reliable cooperation partner based on shared values. He said he hopes the two sides will work together through close communication to design a multi-layered framework for bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
