Science ministry launches advisory panel to draft AI ethics principles
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT launched an expert advisory panel on March 13 to begin drafting AI ethics principles aimed at building a safe and trustworthy AI society. The principles are intended to promote human-centred and responsible AI development and use, considering AI\'s potential positive and negative impacts. Under the AI Basic Act, the ministry formed the committee with the Korea Information Society Development Institute. It plans a draft by mid-April and final principles by June.

Korea telecoms overhaul governance to match AI Framework Act
South Korea\'s telecom industry is accelerating responses to the AI Framework Act, which took effect on Jan. 22 and sets transparency obligations for high-impact and generative AI. SK Telecom is strengthening an internal governance framework and portal to assess AI risks. KT is applying its ASTRI AI ethics principles and has set safety standards and tools. LG Uplus is running a cross-department AI risk management system and expanding employee training.

AI future planning senior secretary, National AI Strategy Committee hold AI policy meeting with civic groups
South Korea\'s National AI Strategy Committee said on Sunday it held a meeting with the presidential office\'s senior secretary for AI future planning to hear civil society views on overall AI policy. The meeting focused on the AI Framework Act and an AI action plan, including impacts on rights, safety and democracy. Participants called for ongoing communication with civic groups, early establishment of AI ethics principles and policies that benefit all citizens.
