Korea Artificial Intelligence Association posts AI policy proposal for parliamentary audit

The Korea Artificial Intelligence Association said on Oct. 6 it posted its views on South Korea\'s AI policies and projects on a dedicated webpage, timed to the start of parliament\'s annual audit. The 51-page document includes questions and corrective demands for 17 standing committees and the budget committee, registers covering 62 policy and project groups, and requests for government-wide data.

Google to send four AI chips into space, first \'space data centre\' test set for Oct. 1

Google will launch a low-Earth orbit satellite on Oct. 1 carrying four Tensor Processing Units as the first orbital test under Project Suncatcher, aimed at building AI data centres in space. The company will test whether the chips can withstand launch forces, radiation and cooling limits in vacuum conditions. The satellite will run on about 1 kilowatt of solar power, operate for about a year and remain in orbit for up to six years.

MSIT launches second phase of AI policy office, putting AI top-three push to execution test

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT has moved its AI Policy Office into a second phase after appointing a new director. The office, created in a government reorganisation last year, oversees AI policy, industry promotion, computing infrastructure, data and safety and trust. The first phase focused on securing GPUs and advancing a homegrown AI foundation model project. The ministry now faces tasks including expanding evaluation standards, rolling out public-facing services and accelerating AI data centre development.
