UK weighs curbing addictive social media features rather than total ban for under-16s

The British government is expected to unveil proposals within weeks to regulate social media use by those under 16, with a focus on limiting addictive design features rather than imposing a blanket ban. Measures being discussed include restrictions on infinite scroll, video autoplay and notifications, as well as limits on likes, comments and recommendation algorithms. Platforms have pushed device-based age controls, while a total ban is not fully ruled out.
