SpeakEasy Labs Korea, which operates the AI English learning solution Speak, said on Monday it has launched a new feature called Phone Speak within the Speak app that lets users practise speaking English with an AI tutor as if on a phone call.

The company said Phone Speak is a new in-app feature that blends a phone-English format into the existing Speak AI language learning environment. It uses an interface familiar to Korean learners, the company said, and focuses on making opportunities to speak English in daily life more flexible and easier.

Phone Speak can be used without fixed textbooks or scripts. Based on what the learner says, the AI tutor naturally continues with follow-up questions, allowing learners to practise English through real conversations tailored to topics of interest or situations they need immediately.

Phone Speak also supports a hands-free environment that does not require users to keep looking at the smartphone screen. Users can use spare time of about 10 minutes a day to talk in English during commutes, walks or housework. If users reserve a preferred time in advance, they can also receive a push notification to start the call.

A Speak official said, "Phone Speak is a feature built by incorporating a phone-English method familiar to Korean learners into the form of a function in the Speak AI learning solution, so that anyone can use spare moments in daily life through reservation push notifications and build a habit of speaking English without 부담." The official added, "We hope that as conversations accumulate, users can practise speaking with an AI tutor that understands them better, and speak English confidently without hesitation in real situations."
