Intel steps up foundry push; Tan says it can compete with TSMC
Intel said it is starting to show visible results in its foundry business for external customers. CEO Lip-Bu Tan said customer interest is rising and he expects agreements with multiple customers in the second half of this year. He said Intel’s manufacturing competitiveness is improving, pointing to progress in its 18A process and yield gains. Intel is also discussing its 14A process as a longer-term basis to compete with TSMC.

Musk says there is no way to secure enough AI chips, making them is the answer
Elon Musk said on Tesla’s earnings conference call that the company plans to produce its own AI chips using Intel’s not-yet-finished 14A manufacturing process, according to The Register. He said he was pleased to work with Intel on core manufacturing technology and expects 14A to be mature or ready for deployment by the time Tesla’s Terafab scales up. Musk cited worries about chip shortages as the main reason for making chips in-house.

Intel shares surge 15 percent after hours on Q1 beat, strong Q2 outlook; data center and foundry sales rise
Intel\'s shares surged 15 percent in after-hours trading after the company posted first-quarter results that beat market expectations and issued a stronger-than-expected second-quarter outlook. Revenue rose 7.2 percent to $13.58 billion, topping forecasts. Data center revenue climbed 22 percent to $5.1 billion and foundry revenue rose 16 percent to $5.4 billion. Intel posted a net loss of $4.28 billion, wider than a year earlier.
