Mistral CEO says in-house chip development is something that must be done someday

French AI startup Mistral is considering designing its own chips, CNBC reported on May 28. CEO Arthur Mensch said an in-house chip could meaningfully reduce token distribution costs, adding that the time to build chips will come, though the company currently relies on Nvidia. Mistral also announced inference-focused data centres in France, with a total investment of 4 billion euros in France and Sweden, and introduced its enterprise agent platform Vibe.

Gartner warns most generative AI projects to run over budget

Gartner forecast that more than half of generative AI projects will exceed budgets because of poor architecture choices and a lack of operational know-how. It also expects most companies seeking to build their own customised models to abandon efforts due to costs, complexity and technical debt. In its 2026 Generative AI Hype Cycle report, Gartner said none of the 30 assessed AI technologies has reached the Plateau of Productivity.

Debt collection market overhaul aims to curb 'primitive predatory finance'

South Korea's financial authorities have begun overhauling the private debt collection market after President Lee Jae-myung publicly criticised practices in collecting long-overdue debt. The plan would shift the business of buying and collecting non-performing loans to a licensing system, limit eligible operators to firms majority-owned by financial companies and raise minimum capital requirements. Regulators say the current market structure fuels long-term and excessive collection and is difficult to supervise effectively.
