Apple's wall-mounted smart home device, HomeView, requires buyers to purchase a power adapter and mount separately, it has been confirmed. Using an adapter that does not meet the specifications can trigger an insufficient power warning, making it necessary to check compatibility before buying.

On Oct. 13, IT media outlet 9to5Mac reported that Apple disclosed HomeView's power requirements and criteria for selecting compatible adapters in its support documents.

Apple lists the minimum power specification as a 20-watt USB-C power adapter. The adapter must support output of at least 9 volts and 2.22 amps. If the conditions are not met, the device may display a warning saying the power is insufficient.

That means normal use may be difficult even with a USB-C port if the output specification does not match. Consumers should check not only the connector type but also supported voltage, current and output specifications.

HomeView also requires separate accessories for installation. Apple says the product box does not include a mount or power adapter. Even after buying the device, users must additionally prepare parts to secure it to a wall and a power supply device.

Power connection methods can also vary by mount. Some third-party products support a method of connecting directly to home electrical wiring without using a separate USB-C power adapter. Required configurations may differ depending on the installation environment and mount type, making it important to check compatibility in advance.

In its support documents, Apple provided guidance on compatible power adapters and troubleshooting steps to check when an insufficient power warning appears. A basic step is confirming whether the power supply output meets the device requirements.

Accessory costs are also a factor to consider when buying. According to earlier reports, Apple sells two mount options, with prices starting at $59, or about 80,000 won. One additional option is scheduled to be released in early 2027. Buyers may incur extra costs for a mount and power device in addition to the device price.

The guidance is significant because it specifies the power conditions and accessory setup needed to install the wall-mounted HomeView. Many may assume a standard USB-C adapter will work, but the device requires meeting a minimum output threshold.

Consumers considering buying HomeView should check not only the device price but also the power adapter's output specifications, whether a mount must be purchased separately, and how power will be connected depending on the installation environment. Accessory selection and power specifications are emerging as key variables in the initial installation process.
