IT firms expand internal developer platform builds to boost productivity
South Korean IT companies are building and upgrading internal developer platforms (IDPs) to improve development productivity. The platforms standardise repetitive infrastructure tasks such as server configuration, deployment and access control, allowing developers to focus on service development. Yanolja, Viva Republica and Daangn are cited as adopters. Gartner forecasts that by 2026, 80 percent of large software organisations will run dedicated platform engineering teams, up from 45 percent in 2022.

K-defense boom masks near-total reliance on imported defense semiconductors
South Korean weapons are setting export records, but defense semiconductors that serve as their core components rely almost entirely on imports, raising concerns about structural vulnerabilities. A report cited 98.9 percent import use for advanced chips in domestic weapon systems, with particularly high dependence for power and memory semiconductors. The article also highlights risks from hardware backdoors and limits of network separation, and notes China’s push to raise self-sufficiency in SiC and GaN power chips.

AI lowers coding barrier; competitive edge is industry knowledge and work understanding
With coding AI advancing rapidly, a view has emerged that the key capability in software development is understanding industries and business work rather than programming itself. Software developer Aaron Brethorst said that as AI writes more code, expertise to judge whether systems meet real requirements becomes more valuable. He cited payroll and logistics examples and said agentic AI is weakening the link between domain expertise and coding. Others noted that validating outputs and instructing AI are separate skills.
