[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] Asset manager Strive disclosed bitcoin purchases for a second straight day and rose to fourth in bitcoin holdings among listed companies.
On Oct. 14 (local time), blockchain media outlet CoinPost reported that Strive bought an additional 2,822 BTC from Oct. 12 to 13.
SEC filings show the purchase cost $235 million. The average purchase price, including fees and related costs, was about $83,266 per bitcoin. The purchases lifted Strive's bitcoin holdings to 35,595 BTC as of Oct. 13 from 32,773 BTC as of Oct. 9. As a result, it rose to fourth from fifth among listed companies by holdings, while miner Mara slipped to fifth from fourth.
Strive also disclosed purchases the previous day. The company said it bought 3,311 BTC over five days from Oct. 5 to 9. Compared with the prior disclosure, it bought 2,822 BTC in just two days this time, accelerating its pace of bitcoin accumulation.
On fundraising, attention is on the exercise of existing warrants. A warrant is a right to buy a company's shares at a pre-agreed price within a set period. In the previous disclosure, warrants equivalent to about 15.3 million shares remained unexercised. Of those, warrants for 273,493,909 shares equivalent to 13,674,703 shares were exercised on Oct. 12 to 13. The total raised is expected to reach $369.2 million.
Matt Cole (맷 콜), Strive's chief executive officer, said the cumulative exercise rate of existing warrants reached 94 percent and the amplification rate was 47 percent. He also said on a Sept. 2 podcast that if expiring warrants are exercised, the funds could be used for additional bitcoin purchases. With recent back-to-back buying, the link between warrant exercise funds and the bitcoin purchase strategy is again coming into focus.
Strategy, the top bitcoin holder among listed companies, also maintained its buying stance. Strategy announced on Oct. 12 that it bought an additional 250 BTC from Oct. 5 to 11. The average purchase price was $86,194 per bitcoin.
The purchase brought Strategy's bitcoin holdings to 848,250 BTC as of Oct. 11. Its cumulative purchase cost, including fees and related costs, totals $64.0 billion, and the average purchase price is $75,444 per bitcoin. The company has continued buying bitcoin for four straight weeks.
Competition among listed companies to buy bitcoin is also driving shifts in holdings rankings. Strive has climbed the rankings by increasing its buying pace over a short period, while Strategy continues additional purchases while maintaining an overwhelming level of holdings. Against this backdrop, the market is watching whether funds secured through warrant exercises will continue to flow into bitcoin purchases.
