Choi Jong-hyun Academy says AI should deliver via specialisation then link to general-purpose capabilities

Choi Jong-hyun Academy issued a report calling for a strategy that first produces immediate results with specialised AI and then connects to general-purpose AI capabilities. It said sovereign AI should not be framed as a domestic-versus-global binary, but as a choice of what the state must control and where to use global cooperation. The report highlighted manufacturing as a key arena and urged public infrastructure, data governance and safeguards on worker rights.

KT recruits 'Y Futurist' student marketing supporters

KT said on Wednesday it will recruit university students through Jan. 25 for its 2026 Y Futurist marketing supporters programme. The programme, launched in 2003, will select 73 new members this year and operate about 100 participants including second-year members. Selected students will join KT-related team projects and Y brand marketing, take classes and studies, and carry out activities including a trend conference and campaigns.

Lotte Energy Materials to retool Iksan plant 20,000-ton line for AI circuit foil

Lotte Energy Materials has converted its Iksan plant in South Korea into a production base for circuit foil used in AI. During a global strategy meeting held at the plant on Jan. 13-14, it outlined plans to shift about 20,000 tons of battery foil capacity to circuit foil, complete customer approvals early and stabilise quality. The company also reviewed cost and equipment measures at its Malaysia plant and set targets including expanded new customer exposure.
