A touch-sensitive mousepad aimed at reducing desktop peripherals has been unveiled. It integrates Stream Deck, macro pad, MIDI controller and numpad functions into a single desk pad.

TechRadar reported on June 23 that Reddit user "cmajmus" unveiled the Kage GhostPad, which hides 16 touch buttons inside a mousepad.

The GhostPad's main feature is that its buttons do not protrude. Touch input areas are placed beneath the pad surface, so it looks like a normal desk mat, but pressing specific sections triggers preset functions. Each button can be linked to shortcuts, macros and media controls, as well as MIDI note input, gamepad buttons and launching programs.

Settings can be changed in a dedicated browser-based application after connecting to a PC via USB. Users can drag and drop desired functions into each area and adjust button pressure sensitivity and icons individually.

A detachable LCD module is also mounted on the side of the product. The display shows the currently active mode, shortcut configuration and status information in real time.

The GhostPad also supports dividing the surface into multiple programmable zones. Users can set different shortcut sets depending on their work environment and switch as needed. The creator explained that development began from dissatisfaction with the desk space taken up by multiple peripherals. "The Stream Deck, macro pad, MIDI controller and numpad all take up space," he said. "I wanted to integrate all these functions into one while making a product that has no visual presence."

He also addressed concerns about malfunctions. Some users pointed out that unintended inputs could occur if a hand brushes the pad or an object is placed on it, but the creator said areas overlapping with a keyboard can be disabled and that buttons do not register even if a 500 mL beer glass is placed on top. He also said a waterproof design was applied, and the surface cover was designed to be replaceable if it wears out or a design change is needed.

Reddit users' reactions were largely positive. One user called it "a product that is so strange not to already exist," while another said it was "absurdly cool." Interest appears to be high, especially among users trying to minimize devices on their desks.

The GhostPad is set to be released through crowdfunding. The creator said he plans to start funding within months, and pre-orders are also under way on the official website. The early-bird price was set at 129 euros, about 220,000 won.

By price alone it is far more expensive than a typical mousepad, but if it can replace a Stream Deck, macro pad, MIDI controller and numpad, it is expected to save both cost and space. A key question will be how well touch accuracy, misinput prevention and durability are validated in the mass production stage.
