AWS CFO says AI spending sustainable, server investment recouped within three years
Amazon Web Services pushed back against concerns of an AI investment bubble, saying current levels of spending are sustainable. AWS Chief Financial Officer John Felton said AI investment is driving meaningful innovation and that AWS is already seeing results from AI capital expenditure. He said the company recoups AI server investment costs within three years and pointed to nearly $500 billion in backlog as evidence of broad-based demand.

OpenAI shares case of automating software maintenance using GPT-6
OpenAI has disclosed on its blog how it automated internal software maintenance using its coding agent Codex and GPT-6 family models. The company assigned GPT-6 Astra to identify and remove unused code by reviewing pull requests, Slack conversations and internal records. Engineers merged more than 1,400 pull requests and deleted over 800,000 lines of code. OpenAI also used Astra to clean up old experiments and feature flags, and tested cheaper GPT-6.1 Sol for similar tasks.

China's StepFun launches agent-based STEPX Neo smartphone, redesigns OS from scratch
China AI startup StepFun has launched the STEPX Neo smartphone built around AI agents rather than apps, a report said. The handset runs Step AOS 1.0 and includes a built-in AI agent called Amoo. The phone is priced at 3,999 yuan, or about $560, and comes with a 12-month AI plan allowing 100 billion tokens per month. StepFun did not disclose pricing after one year.
