Sony says PlayStation digital games are licensed, not owned, fights class action

Sony has told a U.S. federal court that digital games bought on the PlayStation Store are not owned by users but provided under a licence, as it fights a class action alleging the word "buy" misleads consumers. The suit cites California law AB 2426, which requires clear disclosure when a transaction is a licence. Sony says its checkout already links to terms stating users do not own the product and is asking the court to send the dispute to private arbitration.

Russia crypto enters regulated system; first-year trading seen at $46.4 billion

Russia’s new legal framework for cryptocurrencies takes effect on Sept. 1, and the country’s largest bank, Sberbank, forecasts the domestic crypto trading market could reach up to 4 trillion roubles, or about $46.4 billion, in the first year. A Sberbank executive also said trading could expand to 7.5 trillion roubles, or about $87.0 billion, by 2029 if growth continues. The bank is preparing to accept ether and USDT as loan collateral, subject to central bank approval.

Hecto Group joins state project to develop AI medical devices for early lung cancer detection

Hecto Group is developing AI medical devices to help detect lung cancer early and predict recurrence through a state-backed digital healthcare project. Its HAI unit joined the OnKoTECT consortium led by Seoul National University Bundang Hospital under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Bio Industry Technology Development programme. The consortium will receive 15.5 billion won in research funding through December 2030 to develop and commercialise AI for early diagnosis and recurrence prediction of pancreatic and lung cancers.
