Dollar supply-demand imbalance persists? U.S. stock net buying by Korean retail investors hits record high
Korean retail investors net bought $1.942 billion of U.S. stocks through Jan. 9, the largest such amount for the period since 2011, data showed. The won-dollar rate rose for seven straight sessions to 1,457.6 on Jan. 9, up 27.8 won from Dec. 29, reversing more than half of a prior drop. Analysts cited persistent structural dollar demand as a key factor.

SKT 500B AI model tops 8,800 downloads four days after release
SK Telecom said on Sunday that its A.X K1 500B-class AI model recorded more than 8,800 downloads in four days after a technical report was released on Jan. 7. The company cited scalability and said social media posts highlighted its Apache 2.0 licence, allowing free use and distribution. It said the model was developed over about four months at 519B scale and showed similar or better performance on major benchmarks.

Shinhan Financial Group held its 2026 management strategy meeting from Jan. 8 to 10 at Shinhan Bank’s Blue Campus in Yongin, Gyeonggi province, with 250 executives attending. The meeting featured lectures and discussions on the future of finance, shared failure cases and analyzed causes. Chairman Jin Okdong chaired the sessions without a separate moderator and urged leaders to take responsibility for innovation and fulfill their duties to strengthen the group’s future competitiveness.
